Constructed circa 1910, the residence located at 902 Maple Street is significant because of its architectural design, which contributes to the overall architectural character of Columbia's Old Shandon Historic District.

This single-dwelling, two-story wood frame home is clad in brick veneer. The one-story enclosed sunroom, the boarded window enclosures on the south and west elevations, and the two-story addition on the north elevation are historic alterations that were made prior to 1956. The central entry, which is recessed within the west elevation and covered by a hip roof door hood with no supports, contains a door surround with transom and side lights in a diamond/lattice pattern.

Windows are six over one with the ground floor windows flanked by two narrow four over one windows. Clipped corners occur on the second story, and the northwest and southwest elevations. A composition shingle, side gable roof with wide overhanging, boxed eaves contains a south elevation exterior chimney. One outbuilding stands to the east of the house.

This home was entered into the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property under the "Old Shandon Historic District," nomination of 2003.
